68th (Durham Light Infantry) Regiment Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate c1823-1830, this example is HM silver Birmingham 1824. The rectangular back plate (9.2 x 7.5cm) with assay cycle for 1823/24 and maker’s mark ‘S.H’ bears various silver mounts comprising a triple honour scroll, ‘Salamanca Vittoria Pyrenees’ the Crown of State, laurel and palm sprays, a strung bugle horn with ‘68’ within the strings and a further triple honour scroll, ‘Nivelle Orthes Peninsula’, standard hook and stud fasteners. The back plate with a gilt wash for use after 1830, the back plate with sundry ripples around the edges, otherwise very fine condition £800-£1,000
