John Moores attested for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment on 16 November 1916, and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front, as part of the 28th Brigade, 9th Division. He was killed in action on 5 October 1918. The Regiment at the time were in Ledeghem near Ypres, going up to the front on 2 October. They were attacked by the Germans the following day, following heavy shelling. They repulsed the attack, and were relieved during the night of 6-7 October 1918. During this action members of the Regiment were awarded 3 D.C.M.s and 7 M.M.s. Moore has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Beaumont-Hamel (Newfoundland) Memorial, France.
