British War and Victory Medals (22602 Pte. J. Adams. Manch. R.); together with the recipient’s bugle, by Higham, Manchester, impressed with maker’s name and numbered ‘64700’, and additionally impressed ‘23rd S.B. (8th C.B.) M.R.’, with two mouthpieces, complete green tassel, some denting to bugle, but otherwise in working order, the medals good very fine (lot) £100-£140
James Adams was born in 1878 and attested for the Manchester Regiment in Manchester on 28 December 1914. He served with the 23rd (Service) (8th City Pals) Bantam Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front as a Bugler, and subsequently as a Drummer with the 22nd Battalion.
Sold with the recipient’s Soldiers’ Small Book; seven photographs of the recipient; and the recipient’s brass matchbox case, engraved ‘Drummer J. Adams, 22 Manchester Rgt. Arras-Somme’.
