William Bremner was dangerously wounded by a gunshot to the right thigh which fractured the bone during the attack on the Dargai Heights on 18 October 1897. Piper Findlater and Private Lawson, both of the Gordons, were famously awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry in this action.
