Charles Harris was born in Oxford and attested for the 19th Hussars at Canterbury in December 1870. He advanced to Sergeant in February 1875, and to Troop Sergeant Major in May 1883. Harris served with the Regiment in Egypt, August 1882 - June 1886 (not entitled to ‘Tel-El-Kebir’ clasp). He was discharged, 28 October 1890, having served 19 years and 312 days with the Colours.
