M. Wood served as an Orderly with the North Staffordshire Corps, St. John Ambulance Brigade in South Africa during the Boer War, being discharged sick to Cape Town on 9 July 1900. He subsequently joined the South African Constabulary and served with ‘C’ Division in 1901 and 1902, before being discharged on 19 September 1902.
