Thomas Strong was born at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, and enlisted into the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Scots on 13 January 1900. He served in South Africa from 16 February 1900 to 9 June 1901, and was discharged on 15 June 1901.
Sold with copied discharge papers and medal roll entry, together with an original studio portrait photograph by Turnbull & Sons, this damaged at one corner.
