Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Johannesburg (866 Pte. J. Easter, Norfolk Regt.) polished, very fine £80-£120

James Easter attested for the Norfolk Regiment on 6 June 1884, and served with them in India and Burma from 22 November 1885 to 5 March 1890 (entitled to an India General Service Medal with clasp Burma 1887-89). Transferring to the Army Reserve upon his return home, he was discharged on 5 June 1896, after 12 years’ service. Following the outbreak of the Boer War he was recalled to the Colours on 26 December 1899, and served in South Africa from 4 January 1900 to 6 May 1901 (additionally entitled to the South Africa 1901 clasp). He was discharged on 2 August 1901, after a further 1 year and 220 days’ service.

Sold with copied service papers and medal roll extracts.

The third clasp on this medal is Johannesburg, not Driefontein.
