James Blackwell was born at Limerick in 1855, and enlisted there on 19 February 1874, a labourer by trade. He served overseas at Malta, Cyprus and Halifax N.S. and, at the time of his discharge as Quarter-Master Sergeant on 20 February 1895, his only medal entitlement was that for long service and good conduct. He re-enlisted into the Royal Munster Fusiliers at Stratford on 12 September 1914, and served at Home until he was discharged on 15 December 1917, as being no longer physically fir for war service, and awarded the Silver War Badge. He died in London on 6 August 1937. Sold with copied discharge papers.
