Walter Butler was born in Battersea, London. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards in the French theatre of war from 7 October 1914. Butler was killed in action on the Western Front, 28 December 1914, and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
