Fred Cooke was born in South Banks, Yorkshire. He served during the Great War with the 10th (Service) Battalion, Durham Light Infantry in the French theatre of war from 21 May 1915. Cooke was killed in action on the Western Front, 31 July 1915, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
