Harry Percy Birchett was born in Elmstead, Kent. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment in the French theatre of war from 27 December 1914. Birchett was killed in action on the Western Front, 15 September 1915, according to Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-19 - however this is at variance with the CWGC which gives the year as ‘1916’.
Private Birchett is buried in the Guillemont Road Cemetery, Somme, France.
Frederick Stephen Croucher was born in Faversham, Kent. He served during the Great War with the 6th Battalion, East Kent Regiment in the French theatre of war from 1 June 1915. Croucher was killed in action on the Western Front, 13 October 1915. On the latter date the Battalion War Diary records the 6th Battalion as suffering over 400 casualties as a consequence of a disastrous attack near Loos.
Private Croucher is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
