Elijah Richards was born in Buckwell, Somerset in December 1882. He joined the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force in May 1915, and served during the Great War with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles (Saskatchewan Regiment) in the French theatre of war from 24 March 1916. Richards was killed in action on the Western Front, 5 May 1916, and is buried in the Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium.
