Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Sahagun & Benevente (Robert Chandler, 7th Hussars.) edge bruise, otherwise good very fine £1,200-£1,400

Provenance: Day Collection, Sotheby’s, April 1910; Baldwins 1950.

Robert Chandler was born near Reading, Berkshire, and enlisted into the 7th Hussars in London on 1 December 1805. He was discharged at Dublin on 22 August 1821, on Reduction of the Regiment, and admitted to an Out-Pension at Royal Kilmainham Hospital on 29 August 1821. He conduct was described as ‘exceedingly good’ and that ‘he served in Spain in 1808 & 13 & 14.’ He was also present at the battle of Waterloo, gaining 2 years extra service. He died in Birmingham on 19 April 1853.
