A unique combination of clasps to the 40th, only ten clasps for St Sebastian to the regiment.

Henry Cheeny (Cheney) was born in the Parish of Dunard, County Wicklow, and enlisted into the 40th Foot at Dublin on 13 October 1810, aged twenty, for unlimited service. He was discharged on Reduction on 14 April 1819, and ‘says he was hurt on the breast at the siege of Badajos since which his breathing has been affected.’ His conduct was described as ‘good’ and that he ‘served in the Peninsula, North America and at Waterloo, and was wounded in the right side at the battle of the Pyrenees.’ He was present at Waterloo in Captain Bishop’s Company. He was admitted to an Out-Pension at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, on 19 April 1826, and died on 12 May 1853.
