Wesney Gentry was born in Chelmsford, Essex, in 1880, the son of Josiah and Emily Gentry. He enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 and transferred to the 10th (Service) Battalion (Grimsby), Lincolnshire Regiment (known as the Grimsby Chums) on 23 September 1917. He was awarded the M.M. while serving with the 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, the war diary for which states for bravery between 17 August 1918 and 30 September 1918. During this period, the 2nd Battalion were engaged in severe fighting on the Somme. He died in Colchester, Essex, in 1968.
