Richard George Veryard B.Sc., was born in October 1899, and commissioned Second Lieutenant from Cadet in the Royal Air Force, in April 1919. He was appointed a Meteorological Office Clerk at the Air Ministry, in June 1923. Veryard was commissioned Temporary Flight Lieutenant for duty under the Director of the Meteorological Office in October 1925. He advanced to Technical Officer in the Meteorological Office, Air Ministry, in June 1936. Veryard was appointed Secretary for the Royal Meteorological Society, and regularly contributed articles to the journal, as well as publishing other work.
