Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-1934), studied medicine at the University of Saragossa; appointed chair of histology and pathological anatomy at Barcelona, 1887, and later at Madrid, 1892; shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine for 1906 with Camillo Golgi for their work on the structure of the nervous system.
