Henry Aubrey de Ferrais Furber was born on 22 December 1884, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment on 21 March 1903. He was promoted Lieutenant on 30 July 1904, before transferring to the Regular Army as a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry on 6 July 1907. He resigned his commission in January 1908, and the following year was re-appointed Lieutenant in the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment. He served with the 1st Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment during the Great War on the Western Front from 27 August 1914, and was promoted Captain on 1 January 1917. He was employed with the Royal Air Force in 1918, and was demobilised on 24 September 1919. He was appointed to the Royal Irish Constabulary on 10 November 1920, and served as a temporary Cadet with the Auxiliary Division during the Irish Troubles.

Furber was re-appointed Captain in the Royal West Kent Regiment, Regular Army Reserve of Officers, on 3 April 1923. During the Second World War he served in the Home Guard as a Major, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry (Retired), and died in Christchurch, Hampshire, on 1 May 1965.

Sold with the recipient’s original Commission Document, appointing him a Second Lieutenant in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, dated 5 July 1907; his second original Commission Document, appointing him a Lieutenant in the Royal West Kent Regiment; his third original Commission Document, appointing him a Captain in the Royal West Kent Regiment, Regular Army Reserve of Officers; his Home Guard Certificate of Service; and a large quantity of copied research.
