James Russel, Boatman, was awarded the Swedish Medal for Laudable Actions, along with Staff-Commander George Charles and Chief Boatman James Summer, for his services in rescuing the crew of the Swedish ship Orädds, which ran aground near near Rye, Sussex, in 1866.
