Anthony Firby was born in Richmond, Yorkshire, and was the son of Mrs E. A. Firby of 77 Victoria Road, Teams, Gateshead. He served during the Great War with the 1/9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and was killed in action on the Western Front, 5 November 1916. Private Firby is buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
