M.M. London Gazette 29 August 1918 (Egypt):
‘For acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field.’
J. Thomson attested for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 18 December 1914, and embarked for the Dardanelles, 3 October 1915. He subsequently served with the Machine Gun Squadron, New Zealand Machine Gun Corps in the Egyptian theatre of war, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in March 1919. Thomson embarked for New Zealand in S.S. Ellinga, 23 July 1919.
