1914 Star (9585 Pte. W. E. Fanning. 2/Lan: Fus.) very fine £140-£180

William Edward Fanning was born in Oldham, Lancashire, and attested for the Lancashire Fusiliers at Ashton-under-Lyne. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 22 August 1914, and was killed in action four days later, on 26 August 1914. He has no known grave and is commemorated on la Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.
