Henry Candler Neilly Fowler was a native of Scarborough, Yorkshire. He joined the British Red Cross Society & Order of St. John of Jerusalem as a volunteer driver (unpaid) in 1915. He served in the French theatre of war from 21 September 1915, and with a motor ambulance unit in Italy, February 1916 - December 1918.
