Phyllis Elaine Wicks was born in Bristol in 1893. She joined the British Red Cross Society in 1933 and became Commandant of Somerset 88 Detachment in 1936. She was awarded the Defence Medal for her services during the Second World War and continued in office as Commandant until her retirement in 1962, after which she was awarded the British Empire Medal for her services.
