Bristol Gaol Good Conduct Medal, V.R., silver, the reverse centre inscribed ‘Good Conduct 1878’ with inscription around ‘Her Majesty’s Gaol Bristol’, named on the rim (Elijah Marshall - Warder) very fine and rare £200-£240
Elijah Marshall was born in 1852. In February 1880, at the Bristol Assizes, he pleaded guilty to feloniously receiving stolen elastic webbing and sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour. His occupation at the time was given as Warehouse Porter. Prior to this he had been a warder at Bristol Gaol and before that he was in the employ of the Great Western Railway Company.
