Four: Corporal F. G. Greenwood, Royal West Kent Regiment, who was killed in action on 27 June 1944

1939-45 Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with named Army Council enclosure; together with a King’s Badge for Loyal Service, in card box of issue, with Ministry of Pensions enclosure named to ‘Miss W. L. Greenwood’, nearly extremely fine (5) £80-£120

Frederick George Greenwood was born in Lawshall, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, on 12 July 1924, and attested for he Northamptonshire regiment at Bury St. Edmunds on 10 August 1938, aged 14. He transferred to the Royal West Kent Regiment as a Private on 27 December 1943, and served with them during the Second World War in North Africa and Italy. He was appointed acting Corporal on 7 June 1944, and was killed in action in Italy during the advance on Florence on 27 June 1944. He is buried in Assisi War Cemetery, Italy.
