John A. Falla was born in Mortlake, Surrey, and served with the East Surrey Regiment (Territorial Force) during the Great War, and was additionally entitled to the Territorial War Medal.

Myler Barnes Falla, the brother of Sergeant John A. Falla, was born in Mortlake, Surrey, and served with the 18th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment (London Irish Rifles) during the Great War on the Western Front. He died of wounds in Belgium on 10 November 1916, whilst being tended to at the 4th London Field Ambulance, and is buried in the Brandhoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
