Thomas Smith Chambers was born in Devon in 1881, and attested for the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry, on 20 April 1906. He served during the Great War with the 1st/5th Battalion in India, and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant on 6 June 1916.
