Ashanti Star 1896, reverse inscribed in the usual Regimental style ‘2070 Pte. C. Boston 2. W. Yorks. R.’, very fine £340-£380
Charles Boston was born in Whitechapel, London in 1869, and attested for the West Yorkshire Regiment in October 1887. He served with the 2nd Battalion in West Africa, as part of the expeditionary force under Major-General Sir Francis Scott which had been formed against the Ashantis. Boston served with the Regiment in South Africa (entitled to Q.S.A. with ‘Tugela Heights’, ‘Relief of Ladysmith’, ‘Laing’s Nek’, ‘Orange Free State’, ‘Transvaal’ and ‘Belfast’ clasp; K.S.A. with clasps). He was discharged, 30 April 1908, after 20 years and 202 days service with the Colours.
