Atkins, 1-66 Pjbis.); 1939-45 Star, Defence and War Medal 1939-45, all privately named (Major E. A. Atkins T.D. R.P.C.); Efficiency Decoration, G.VI.R., 1st issue, silver and silver-gilt, reverse officially dated '1943', with two Additional Award Bars, G.VI.R. both officially dated ‘1951’, with integral top ‘Territorial’ riband bar, mounted as worn, nearly very fine or better (8) £240-£280
Edwin Alan Atkins attested for the Essex Regiment and served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War in the Balkan theatre of War from 11 August 1915. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the East Surrey Regiment on 27 January 1916, and subsequently served during the Great War as a Lieutenant with the South African Railway Operating Company. Post-War, he transferred to the Indian Army, and served with the 1st Battalion, 66th Punjabis during the Third Afghan War. Relinquishing his commission, he joined the Royal Pioneer Corps (Territorial Army), and saw further service during the Second World War.
Sold with an original framed Great War photograph of the recipient in uniform, the glaze broken. A note on the back states: ‘wounded twice 1914/18 also 1939/40 Dunkirk.’
