1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star, 1 clasp, France and Germany; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45; Royal Naval Reserve Decoration, E.II.R., silver and silver-gilt, the reverse officially dated ‘1957’; Royal Naval Reserve L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (3655W.S. V. S. Watling, Ch. Skpr., R.N.R.) mounted for display, generally good very fine (6) £240-£280

Victor Spencer Watling was born in Blything, Suffolk in June 1913. He served during the Second War as a Leading Seaman with the Royal Naval Reserve from September 1939. Watling’s subsequent service included at H.M.S. Beaver (Grimbsy) and H.M.S. Nile (Alexandria, Egypt). He was promoted Skipper in November 1942, and advanced to Chief Skipper in December 1950. Watling was commissioned Lieutenant in May 1951, and advanced to Lieutenant Commander in May 1959. He retired in May 1963, and died at Penzance in September 1979.
