Thomas Alfred Goldstone was born in Reading, Berkshire, on 6 April 1923, and attested for the Royal Berkshire Regiment in 1942. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps and is confirmed on the roll as serving at some point with 799 Air Despatch Company, R.A.S.C. This airborne unit had previously played a big role in supplying the 1st Airborne Division at Arnhem in September 1944 where they suffered many casualties, before redeploying to Burma and South East Asia in 1945 in support of the United States Air Force. He died in Reading in January 2002.
