Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (269. Pte. W. Baker. 2/Essex Rgt.) extremely fine £120-£160

William Baker was born in Redhill, Surrey, in 1861, and attested for the Essex Regiment at Warwick on 25 January 1882. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he was stationed in Gibraltar from 8 July 1882, before serving with the Battalion in Egypt and the Sudan from 21 February 1884 to 26 February 1887. He then proceeded with the Battalion to Malta and then, on 28 July 1889, to Cyprus. Returning home on 1 January 1890, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 5 January 1890, and was discharged on 24 January 1894, after 12 years’ service.
