Three: Quartermaster and Major G. T. Poole, Sussex Yeomanry

George T. Poole was born in 1854, and ‘joined first the Middlesex Yeomanry in 1880 and came to the Sussex Yeomanry on its formation as Quartermaster in 1901 and served in that capacity until 1908, when he retired after 28 years service in the Yeomanry. He was awarded the Coronation Medal of 1911 and then the Territorial Decoration in 1913 (London Gazette 19 January 1912).
In his younger days he was a notable rider and a man-at-arms winning many cups and prizes at the Military Tournament and at Regimental and other sports meetings. During the Great War he was an Inspector of the Special Constabulary. He was a great supporter of the Old Comrades Association and a Member of the Sussex Territorial Army Association. He was also a gifted painter. He was within a fortnight of his 83rd birthday when he died. The Association was represented at his funeral by a strong deputation and a wreath in the form of a replica of the Regimental Badge in flowers was sent.’ (Obituary from the Sussex Yeomanry journal refers)
Quartermaster and Major Poole died in 1937.
