William Henry Henzell served in India in 1857-58 with the Left Wing of the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot. He was engaged in the defence of the entrenched position at Azimghur from 25 March to 15 April 1858, and was subsequently present with Brigadier Douglas’ Column in pursuit of Koer Singh and at the actions of 17 and 20 April. He next served with Colonel Turner’s Force in Shahabad, including the capture of Jugdespore, and the actions of 17-20 October. In this last action, at Nonadee, Lieutenant Henzell was severely wounded. He was promoted Captain in November 1862 and later transferred to the 25th Foot.
