A Great War ‘Western Front’ M.M. group of four awarded to Private E. H. Cooper, Hampshire Regiment, who twice distinguished himself whilst serving with the 16th Division, the latter occasion at La Bassee Road on 10 September 1918

Ernest H. Cooper attested for the Hampshire Regiment at Bembridge, Isle of Wight, and served with the 11th (Pioneer) Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 19 December 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal, most likely for his gallantry in the Field on 20 November 1917, for which he received a 16th Irish Division Gallant Conduct Certificate, signed by Major-General W. B. Hickie; and he further distinguished himself at La Bassee Road on 10 September 1918, for which he received a second 16th Division Gallant Conduct Certificate, signed by Major-General A. B. Ritchie.
