4 officers and 31 other ranks of the Royal Engineers were present at Kirbekan, including 2 officers and 20 other ranks from the 26th Company.
James Jenkins was born in the Parish of St Mary’s, Brecon, and enlisted for the Royal Engineers on 10 June 1882, a gas fitter by trade, aged 24 years 8 months. He served in Egypt from February 1884 to September 1885, took part in the Nile Valley Expedition and was present at the battle of Kirbekan. He was discharged on 9 June 1894.
