Harold Talmay was born in Brighton, Sussex, and attested there for the Royal Garrison Artillery, serving as a territorial soldier with 69th Siege Battery. He served during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds on 2 January 1917. He is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Two of Talmay’s brothers also died during the Great War, whilst serving with the Royal Navy and Royal West Kent Regiment.
