Joseph Murphy was born at Irlam, Lancashire, and attested for the Royal Engineers at Chatham on 14 August 1915. He was posted as a Pioneer to the Carrier Pigeon Service and landed in France on 20 August 1915, being appointed Acting Corporal on 6 March 1917. He was demobilised on 31 March 1919 and transferred to Class “Z” Army Reserve. Sold with copied attestation papers.
