John Arthur Brennan was born in Woolwich, London. He attested for the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 15 January 1915. He was killed in action on 8 May 1915 when the trenches occupied by his battalion at Friezenberg, near Ypres were subjected to a heavy barrage, followed by an enemy attack. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
