Frank Beaumont was born in Wimbledon, Surrey, on 26 November 1891, and attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 17 September 1914. He served with the 5th Canadian Railway Troops during the Great War on the Western Front, and was gassed in October 1916. Evacuated to the U.K. to recuperate, he was promoted to Acting Corporal on his return to duty, and arrived back on the Western Front in 1917, being awarded the Military Medal later that year.
