D.S.M. London Gazette 1 January 1945:
‘For gallantry or outstanding service in the face of the enemy, or for zeal, patience and cheerfulness in dangerous waters and for setting an example of wholehearted devotion to duty, upholding the high traditions of the navy.’
Horace John Balsdon was a native of Bristol. He served during the Second War with H.M.S. Basset (armed trawler), and as a Petty Officer with H.M.S. Duke of York (battleship). Balsdon was invested with his D.S.M. at Buckingham Palace, 8 May 1945.
