Pair: Warrant Officer W. J. Barker, Intelligence Corps, late Royal Armoured Corps

Walter Joshua Barker was born on 3 March 1929, and educated at Middlesbrough High School. He enlisted into the Royal Tank Regiment at Middlesbrough on 26 September 1946, serving at Home and in Germany. In 1952-53 he attended the Joint Services School for Linguists and obtained qualification in Russian. On 6 March 1953 joined the Intelligence Corps and was posted to the Vienna Garrison in Austria shortly afterwards, on 27 March, serving there until 12 August 1955. He subsequently served in Kenya, June 1958 to July 1959; Germany, August 1960 to May 1962; and Cyprus, July 1964 to January 1965, the remainder at Home. He was discharged from the Intelligence Corps at Bournemouth on 22 January 1969 in the rank of Warrant Officer II, having served for 22 years 158 days.

Sold with a quantity of original documentation including Soldier’s Record and Pay Book (Army Book 64); Regular Army Certificate of Service (Army Form B.108); various qualification certificates; Occupational Force Travel Permits for himself and his wife whilst serving at Vienna Garrison; two I. Corps cap badges; membership cards for Royal Tank Regiment Association and Comrades Association Intelligence Corps; and a good quantity of photographs, some personal but mostly service related.
