Walter James Cooper was born in Redbourn, Hertfordshire, and attested for the Bedfordshire Regiment at Bedford. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 2 July 1915, and was killed in action on 28 August 1916. He is buried in Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France.
