John O’Holloran was born in Dunbarton, Scotland in 1923. He attested for 5 years service with the British Army and seven years in the reserve on 12 October 1950 and was allocated to the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards on 5 March 1951. He served with them as part of the British Army of the Rhine from that date until 10 September 1951 and then returned to the United Kingdom for a short time. On 10 January 1952 he was posted with his regiment to Korea, remaining there until 12 February 1952. He was then embarked for Japan where he was stationed until 20 September 1951, at which time he was then posted back to Korea, serving there until 15 September 1953. He arrived back in the U.K. on 26 October 1953 and served a further 351 days before he was transferred to the Reserve on 11 October 1955. He remained with the Reserve until 12 October 1962 at which time he was discharged having accumulated 12 years of service towards engagement.
