The 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders landed in Korea on 20 August 1950 having been transported from their base station in Hong Kong on the cruiser H.M.S. Ceylon. For his gallantry on Hill 282, while serving with this battalion, Major Kenneth Muir was awarded the Victoria Cross.
