Seven: Lieutenant-Colonel A. W. Salmon, Royal Army Service Corps, late East Lancashire Regiment

Alfred William Salmon was born on the Isle of Wight in 1912, the son of a Captain in the Royal Artillery. He was a Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, before being commissioned Second Lieutenant in the East Lancashire Regiment on 1 September 1932. He transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps on 1 March 1935 and was advanced Lieutenant on 1 September 1935. On 7 October 1936 he was seconded to the Royal West Africa Frontier Force, a Colonial Office detachment.

Salmon was promoted Acting Captain on 21 June 1940 and was back serving with the R.A.S.C., remaining with them for the remainder of his army career. He was advanced Captain on 1 September 1940, Temporary Major on 26 February 1941, Major on 1 July 1946, Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel on 9 March 1947 and Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 April 1953. He retired on 1 March 1958 and died at the Military Hospital, Aldershot, in 1991.
