The Carmichael School was established in 1826 as the “school of anatomy, medicine and surgery of the Richmond Hospital”, and renamed in 1849, following the death of Richard Carmichael, its first lecturer, who left £10,000 to the Hospital of which £2,000 was allocated to prizes
