A rare ‘Civil Division’ O.B.E. and Central Africa pair awarded to Mr S. H. Fletcher, H.M. Consul at Chinde and Agent there for the Nyasaland Government

O.B.E. London Gazette 15 March 1918 (To be dated from 1 January 1918): ‘Stanley Hewitt Fletcher, Esq. late Consul at Chinde and Agent there of the Nyasaland Government.’
Sold with a copy of the medal roll of the Civilian Volunteer Corps in British Central Africa (9 names) which confirms Volunteer S. H. Fletcher as being present in the Kawinga operations of 1 February to 20 March, 1895, and entitled to the Medal and Clasp.
Stanley Hewitt Fletcher was 2nd Accountant to the British Central Africa Administration and is understood to have defended the Domasi station during the Kawinga operations. On 30 September 1909, he was appointed to be His Majesty’s Consul at Chinde, Mozambique (London Gazette 19 October 1909).
